NPLI Cohort XIII is complete. The concluding session included sessions with NPLI founding co-director and former Presidential Advisor David Gergen, US Secret Service Director (ret,) Julia Pierson (Cohort XI), General (ret.) Charles Jacoby, and ABC News Chief Health and Medical Editor Richard Besser (Cohort II)
A series of impressive meta-leadership team presentations included how to better incorporate accurate science into preparedness and response decision making; increasing public awareness and use of tourniquets to stop bleeding in emergencies; how cities can better prepare for National Special Security Events and large sporting events; aligning EOC investment with end user needs; improving messaging during infectious disease outbreaks; preparing utility managers for cyber threats; and leveraging social media in disaster response.
We will be publishing several of these projects in the Resources section of this site in the weeks ahead. Today we are highlighting Team Social and their Web site for learning how to best use social media in preparedness and response: https://nplisocialresponse.wordpress.com/ Team Social members (right, from left) included Kevin Smith of the Salvation Army, Alicia Johnson of the SF Department of Emergency Management, Dan Risteeen of the MA State Police, and Bill DeMarco of Air Command and Staff College.
Congratulations Cohort XIII — the NPLI network is now 650 strong!
