Neffenger Confirmed as TSA Head

Vice Admiral Peter Neffenger, (Cohort IV) currently Vice Commandant of the United States Coast Neffenger Official Biography PictureGuard, has been confirmed as the new head of the Transportation Security Administration. The TSA has come under fire in recent months and senators expressed confidence in Neffenger’s leadership to move the agency forward. According to USAToday, Senate majority leader Senator Mitch McConnell said that Neffenger’s confirmation will “bring long-overdue leadership to an agency in urgent need of change” while Senator Thomas Carper of Delaware said “Neffenger demonstrated excellent leadership skills at the Coast Guard and has a clear vision for TSA.”

According to its website, the TSA “was created to strengthen the security of the nation’s transportation systems and ensure the freedom of movement for people and commerce. TSA uses a risk-based strategy and works closely with transportation, law enforcement and intelligence communities to set the standard for excellence in transportation security.” It is part of the Department of Homeland Security. Agency personnel interact with as many as 1.8 million passengers each day.
